It’s not much to look at in a 4″ pot, in fact, it would be easy to glide right past it in a garden center, but start holding it up to other plants and you’ll see why we love it.
Waxy smooth, purple-green marbled leaves give Synadenium grantii Rubra a soothing texture and color. Whether it’s used as a centerpiece, or a component it can blend with virtually any color. In a retail setting, be sure to display it with a mannequin planting since it can easily be overlooked.
It’s been slow grower in our experience, so we recommend getting it in the size you ulitmately want. It’s reported to be a great indoor plant during the cold months, which we’ll try this winter. It’s is in the Euphorbia family, you should be careful of skin or eye contact with the toxic milky sap.

These Synadeniums in our 2013 trial garden were virtually unaffected after days of hard September rains.
One our favorite combos in the garden last summer (2013). The giant fuzziness of Salvia argentea gives a great focal point against the sprays of heuchera blooms and a Synadenium backdrop.
OK, is this baby gorgeous or what?! You just want to reach out and touch those smooth, smooth leaves. This is from our 2013 Poulsbo Street Plantings.
